PORR builds again in Austria

8-point protective measures catalogue for safe working

Vienna, 27.03.2020 – After a first milestone in the agreement between the social partners for the construction industry, PORR is gradually resuming operations at the temporarily suspended construction sites in Austria. Compliance with the necessary health and safety measures will have the highest priority. The aim is to have almost full operation again after Easter.

"As one of Austria's economic engines, the construction industry with all its connected supply chains must function at all costs, otherwise the extinguishing work will be more devastating than the current fire," says CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss.

As announced last week by PORR, the ongoing operation of more than 1,000 construction sites in Austria has also been suspended for the most part.

With the recently published action guide of the construction social partners, construction work can now be resumed quickly and gradually ramped up again in close coordination with clients and partners. It goes without saying that the respective protective measures for safe working conditions for the employees must be complied with.

"We care for you" - In accordance with its guiding principle, PORR reacted responsibly and registered its blue collar staff and the majority of its white collar employees in Austria for short-time working as a precautionary measure. Through this measure, the jobs - according to the PORR principles reliability, shoulder to shoulder, appreciation, passion and pioneering spirit - could be secured. At the same time, this procedure enabled construction activities to be resumed in the shortest possible time. In this respect, risk groups - such as elderly people or people with pre-existing or underlying illnesses - are exempted from the obligation to work until further notice. Employees are the most valuable asset within PORR and they must be protected.

A rapid, uniform procedure such as that of PORR is essential for all building owners and especially public clients. It is equally indispensable to restore the cycles of our economic system to normal as quickly as possible.

From today's point of view, PORR's international markets will continue their construction operations.
