“Sustainable aspects have been brought together in perfect harmony in both buildings. The final result and the first-class certification awarded to the projects underline our clear commitment to sustainable construction”, said Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR.
PORR realised the 34m-high, cube-shaped headquarters of the Basler insurance including the interior. The gross floor area of 12,000m² houses high-end office space, meeting rooms, foyers and service facilities, as well as a restaurant area. In addition, the building has an art forum on the ground floor and generous underground parking in the basement levels. Basler architects Diener & Diener were responsible for the design.
In addition to housing the Baloise training centre, the adjacent ten-storey building, designed by Swiss architects Valerio Olgiati, has an energy centre and a car park. It also boasts a fitness centre and a business centre along with ample service areas. The building is approximately 42m tall and makes a mark with its striking, red-brown, perforated facade made of concrete.
Equal weighting for ecology and economy
The two projects have been certified to the latest version of SNBS 2.0 Buildings (Sustainable Construction Standard Switzerland). This means they have achieved Gold certification with a perfect balance between the categories Society, Economy and Environment. The strong performance of the projects in terms of economic and environmental aspects is based on the highly flexible usage permitting future changes in the way the space is conceived, as well as the adaptability of the technical building features and facilities.
