This not only puts PORR in the top 3% of the international construction industry, but in the top 5% worldwide from every company assessed. “This is a truly impressive result. It confirms that we are on the right track with the measures we have implemented”, said a delighted PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss.
EcoVadis currently assesses around 300 companies worldwide based on international sustainability standards, covering a broad range of non-financial management systems. PORR’s role as an industry leader is particularly evident in the areas of labour & human rights and the environment; ethics and sustainable procurement also received positive ratings.
This year, the company’s commitment to science-based targets also contributed to the top rating. This commitment was confirmed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) at the end of 2024 and represents a giant step forward in PORR’s sustainability efforts. Together with progress in the area of ISO certification, this ensured an increase from 77 to 100 points along with a corresponding leap to Gold.
Powering forward
“We will continue at this pace because, having pledged our commitment, we are now in the process of setting science-based targets for PORR. The basis for this includes our full Scope3 reporting this year”, said Karl-Heinz Strauss.
As part of its Green and Lean strategy, PORR is implementing a wide range of measures to accelerate decarbonisation. In addition to optimising construction site logistics and rolling out photovoltaic systems at its own sites, this also includes the circular economy: PORR operates numerous sites for recycling building materials and is considered the largest recycler in the industry in Austria. It is constantly involved in new developments for recycling materials such as plaster and mineral wool. In the social sphere, PORR is a safe and inclusive employer that prioritizes aspects like the PORR Care+ insurance model for employees, the Safety Walk app, and a range of further training measures via the PORR Academy and PORR Campus.
