Vienna, 9 August 2017 – At the end of July, the Grundlsee Lake in Styria was overrun with PORRians. 31 children of PORR employees attended a special Adventure Camp for a week. The goal was to lend a hand with childcare during the summer months, with a top priority placed on fun and adventure for the young girls and boys. The Adventure Camp is just one of an array of measures that PORR is implementing for a healthy work-life balance.

“Our motto is: We demand performance, but we care for you. And we have launched an initiative that is true to this motto. Under the name We@PORR, we have set sail towards a diverse future filled with equal opportunities. We are addressing this issue at multiple levels – for example with childcare and nursing care”, said Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR.

Balancing professional and private life for every staff member along with flexible work models – these are the issues we are proactively addressing in the first phase of the We@PORR initiative. The next step will involve activities and measures in the area of diversity: This primarily involves equality instead of exclusion.

Adventures at Grundlsee Lake

A good work-family balance is a major priority for PORR and with the PORR Adventure Camp the company is supporting parents during the school holidays and offering a summer camp for children aged between six and twelve. This year is the first time the camp has been held and it has attracted great interest. In the end, 13 girls and 18 boys from six federal provinces took part in the Adventure Camp. A seven-strong team from the Upper Austria Family Association has been caring for the young participants. The itinerary included excursions to places like the Bad Aussee salt worlds, the Welios Science Center and attending a ceramics-painting course in Gmunden and a workshop on “Construction site health and safety”. And sporty activities were not given short shrift, with excursions including a visit to a climbing range.

Well-supported

But it’s not only in the summer months that PORR helps out its employees with childcare. Since the start of 2017 there has been a Parent-Child Office at the headquarters in Vienna. When childcare emergencies arise, parents can bring their child to work and keep an eye on them while they are doing their jobs. At the larger PORR sites – currently Vienna and Premstätten/Graz – PORR offers childcare on school holidays, the so-called PORR Kids Days. Once the ongoing needs assessment is completed, PORR plans to roll out the Parent-Child Office, Kids Days and Adventure Camps to other locations across the PORR home markets. The first phase involves implementing the programme in Austria.

PORR leave for nursing care: one-of-a-kind in Austria

PORR has provided a special offer for family crisis situations: together with an insurance provider, it has developed the “PORR leave for nursing care” in Austria. When needed, PORRians can take three months off to care for their family and still receive their remuneration – independent of the statutory leave stipulations. The condition is that the relatives must qualify for a level 3 nursing allowance under the pension insurance in Austria. The PORR offer for nursing care leave is already offered in Germany as well and the goal is to implement comparable regulations for all of the other home markets as quickly as possible.
