A complex urban project

In order to modernise the urban environment and optimise accessibility, the city of Timișoara embarked on an ambitious project: on Cetății Boulevard, the tram lines were renovated together with the adjacent roadway, cycle paths and pavements. In addition, water and wastewater networks, including fire protection and gas networks, as well as the entire power supply, overhead lines, telecommunications and lighting were replaced or refurbished.

Functional and modern

In accordance with the client's requirements, the standard cross-section profile was tailored to a category II road. The tram lines are located on a green platform, with the overhead contact line in the centre. The 10 m wide green space consists of a 7 m wide clearance zone flanked by two 1.5 m wide green strips. To the right and left of this platform are two lanes with a total width of 6 metres.

The combination of functionality and aesthetics creates a modern and sustainable urban design.

High-quality rail infrastructure

The double tramway track was laid using 60R2 grooved rails with a standard track gauge of 1,435 mm on its own green platform. The rails are mounted on reinforced concrete sleepers with elastic fastenings. For better integration into the overall urban infrastructure, they lie on a continuous plate embedded in the carriageway at the crossings. Sleepers and cross sleepers are made of reinforced concrete to ensure the stability and durability of the tracks. The turning loop area is an exception. Here, the rails are mounted on wooden sleepers with elastic fastenings. To maintain the track gauge, tie rods were fitted between the rails. This technical design resulted in a high-quality rail infrastructure that optimises the performance and safety of tram operations.
