Corporate Responsibility

Intelligent building means taking responsibility.

As an international construction company, we build for generations and we shape worlds – with and for people. Sustainable action is a key component of our responsibility towards society and also serves as the foundation for our success. It gives us a clear competitive advantage and encompasses all economic, environmental and socially relevant aspects.

Our strategy for sustainable construction.

The high consumption of energy and resources in the construction industry means that the impacts PORR’s business activities have on society and on the environment are both pronounced and wide-ranging. This calls for a global and future-focused approach. PORR has embraced this responsibility. The basis here is our sustainability strategy, which rests on three foundations: Economic, Environmental and Social. The most important action fields have been identified via a materiality analysis and reflect the three pillars of sustainability.

Economic We strive for sustainable economic success.
Environmental We focus on future-oriented building.
Social We focus on the wellbeing of every staff member.

The principles of sustainable corporate management are anchored in the PORR sustainability strategy. Detailed information on the progress made on projects along with initiatives and success stories can be found in the Sustainability Report, published every year:

What we stand for at PORR.

Whether advancing compliance standards, cutting primary energy consumption or providing internal training on occupational health and safety, PORR’s sustainability goals span a broad range of issues. As a signatory of the UN Global Compact, we fully support the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights. We contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through projects, measures and initiatives. We thereby help to achieve the United Nations’ SGDs by implementing our own goals and measures in the field of CR.

Success – our contribution to doing business sustainably.

The measures implemented are reflected not only in the very good values for staff satisfaction of over 90%. International awards, ratings by independent third parties, and external certificates all underline PORR’s commitment to sustainability.

Highlights 2020

Stakeholder engagement – a comprehensive exchange.

Our success is inevitably linked to the stakeholders inside and outside our company. We actively involve them in the definition of goals and the development of measures. This exchange of experience takes place both when realising projects in the company as well as in cross-company networks, conferences, trade fairs, workshops, various information channels and much more. Here are some examples:

  • CR days & environmental network: Joint projects to advance sustainability activities are developed in specific events and workshops.
  • Stakeholder dialogue forum: In 2020 this annual event focused on cooperative sustainability engagement.
  • Group-wide stakeholder surveys: Includes the regular evaluation of the materiality matrix and further developing the sustainability strategy.
  • Customer satisfaction: Standardised, digital and Group-wide polling.
