Emergency restoration in the mountains.

In March 2017, a landslide between the townships of Bristen and Amsteg buried a more than 10m stretch of the road connecting the two mountain villages, making it impassable. PORR was contracted to perform emergency works to restore the section of road.

The urgency of the situation was not the only challenge presented by this project. The excavation trench for the supporting walls had to be secured with anchors and jetcrete. After the partial excavation, drilling and installation of anchors and micropiles, PORR workers anchored the supporting wall with skids. This fulfilled the structural and safety requirements for the necessary cleaning and securing of the rock face.

A concrete supporting wall was installed to replace the natural stone wall displaced by the moving earth. After completing some necessary blasting, the PORR team finally covered the cleared section of rock with nets. A large part of the works for this project, both on and above the rock, had to be completed by specialists on hanging ropes.
