Expansion of Europe's most important east-west connection.

The A12 connects the Berlin ring road with Frankfurt/Oder. It is also an important part of the European Route 30, which crosses Europe in a west-east direction from Cork in Ireland to Omsk in Siberia over a length of approx. 12,000 km. In order to accommodate the growing freight traffic between Eastern and Western Europe and to reduce the risk of accidents on the A12, the entire road cross-section is being gradually widened from the current 24 m to 29.5 m.

In April 2013, PORR started construction work in a joint venture for the first construction section between the Spreeau motorway junction and the Storkow junction over a length of 6 km. In order to ensure traffic routing, the first step was to temporarily widen the carriageway in the direction of Berlin, followed by the basic expansion of the existing directional carriageways.

In the process, the existing directional carriageways were taken up and replaced by a widening to the standard cross-section RQ 29.5 with two lanes and a hard shoulder each in concrete construction.

Analogous to the first construction section, Oevermann was awarded the contract for the construction of the second construction section between the Friedersdorf junction and the Fürstenwalde West junction over a length of 6 km as part of a joint venture. In addition to the basic expansion of the directional carriageways, two bridges are being renewed and the Friedersdorf and Storkow junctions are being reconstructed.

A particular challenge is the limited time between April and September of each year, in order to avoid weather-related influences such as snow and ice on the cramped traffic routing.
