Czech Republic honours PORR with two prestigious awards

Vienna, 6 June 2014 - In addition to taking second place in the “2013 TOP Construction Company Czech Republic”, the PORR project “Bridge over the South Expressway in Prague-Spořilov” won the public award in the contest “Czech Traffic Construction – Technology – Innovation of the Year”.

Both prizes were issued by the Transport Ministry of the Czech Republic and the Traffic Infrastructure State Fund. The awards ceremony was held on Monday, June 16 2014 in Prague’s historic Bethlehem Chapel. Transport Minister Antonín Prachař and the Rector of the Czech Technical University ČVUT, Petr Konvalinka, joined numerous industry representatives for the gala event. Ľubor Nôta, Managing Director of Porr a.s., accepted the award from the Transport Minister on behalf of the Czech PORR subsidiary.

The bridge over the South Expressway was built in 2013 in just seven months. It replaces the former bridge which was no longer suitable for today’s traffic levels. The new, modern bridge was built from prestressed concrete. Given the location of the busy Prague traffic hub, it was necessary to keep traffic flowing throughout almost the entire construction period. A very close eye was kept on the construction progress not only by the awarding authority – the Technical Road Management of the Capital of Prague – but also by numerous journalists from near and far. The new bridge is set to reduce congestion on Spořilovská Road by 50%, as well as making a key environmental contribution to the whole Spořilov quarter.
