PORR generates sustainable value from Voitsberg power plant

Investor group purchases power plant components, dismantling work progressing well.

Vienna, 19 May 2014 - PORR, the Austrian market leader in sustainable environmental engineering, has accepted a bid from a Romanian group of investors for recycling components from Block III of the former brown-coal Voitsberg power plant, following an international call for tenders. PORR purchased the plot in December 2012, along with the power plant, as part of an asset deal from the trustees of the A-TEC Industries AG administration proceedings. Blocks I and II have been expertly dismantled together with the consortium Partner SCHOLZ Austria GmbH. The resulting steel parts and components will be recycled.

In the coming months the Romanian buyers will dismantle the key power plant components from Block III including the turbine set, generator, boilers, boiler water system, pumps, e-filters, DeNOX system and gas purification system, before removing them for subsequent reuse.

PORR and SCHOLZ are delighted that a buyer could be found for the well-preserved Block III and that the system components will be reused. PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss sees this as a validation of the efforts to ensure the sustainable recycling of the Voitsberg power plant: “I am pleased that we have found a buyer for the power plant components of Block III and that these parts will be reused. This underlines our commitment to conserving resources and protecting the environment and is further proof of PORR’s reliability and record of delivering on our promises”.
