Health and safety are the top priority at PORR.
On the issue of health and safety, PORR’s approach goes one decisive step further: “Safety First” is merely the foundation on which numerous other measures are based. Measures that not only strive to prevent accidents, but also proactively promote good health among PORR staff. This is an intrinsic factor for us – because we know that the physical and mental wellbeing of every PORRian is a prerequisite for our success.
Clear target: zero accidents.
PORR places great emphasis on the continuous prevention of accidents and the safe operation of our construction sites. This is why we have laid out stringent standards in our Group guidelines. Every PORRian is familiar with them: from their very first day they commit to uphold our guidelines on quality, health and safety, and security.
The agreements and principles governing occupational health and safety are laid out in both the Staff Charter and in the Code of Ethics. The Code defines the high value placed on health and safety issues in the company, the importance of further education and training in this area, and our clear commitment to provide a safe working environment.
Our long-term corporate goal is clear: zero accidents. In order to achieve this, we have made adjustments to our organisation. We have bundled the specialist knowhow of our health and safety experts from the individual business units and made it available throughout the Group. The “occupational health and safety” team is in personal contact with those responsible at our construction sites, day in, day out.
At the same time, quarterly focal points, which are determined by our top management, ensure that the importance of occupational health and safety is permanently embedded in the minds of every PORRian. This, for example, is how the “Safety Walk” was established as an instrument for avoiding accidents – a safety check by our management when visiting construction sites.
It goes without saying that individual organisational units receive support if they want to implement additional measures for reducing accidents. Targeted training measures all help to reduce the frequency of accidents and to sustainably improve occupational health and safety.
PORR offers more than the standard programmes.
Comprehensive preventative health measures, health days, vaccination programmes or quit-smoking initiatives – all of these are part of our standard programme. Our company doctors regularly visit construction sites and talk to employees directly at their desks to inform our colleagues about the latest initiatives from the programme. They also give helpful tips on workplace ergonomics.
If PORRians happen to be in a difficult phase of their lives, we support them with mental health consulting and conflict prevention. The independent advisory service is run by a business psychotherapist and provides an opportunity to deal with mental health issues (e.g. insomnia, panic attacks, etc.) and various sources of conflict, quickly and unbureaucratically. Numerous talks and training sessions on these issues complete the range on offer.
We do not only take care of our staff members in the here and now, instead we are also paving the way for the future: with our diversity initiative. As a significant part of the programme, the “Work&Life@PORR” project strives to promote a healthy work-life balance.
Targeted measures for flexible models of working hours and leave such as Home Office, as well as caring for families and the elderly or enhancing skills, aim at fulfilling the individual needs of our PORRians in the best-possible way. At the end of the day, it is about equality instead of exclusion, along with the proactive exchange of knowhow.
