PORR secures infrastructure contract in Romania

Vienna/Bucharest, December 2, 2020 - PORR Construct S.R.L. is once again demonstrating its versatile infrastructure competence. The full-service provider has been awarded the contract for the rehabilitation of the Romanian railroad line Bucharest - Giurgiu. The construction time is 30 months, the contract value amounts to approximately EUR 97m (RON 472m).

"The modernisation of the historically significant rail link between Bucharest and Giurgiu and the landmark in Gradistea will improve the transport infrastructure in the economic region in the long term. We are proud that we are able to realise this technically demanding mega-project", says Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR.

The Design & Build project along the Bucharest - Giurgiu line includes the renewal of a total of four bridges, track works, the refurbishment of the signalling systems and works to repair station buildings along the line. The contract also includes the reopening of the Gradistea Bridge, which collapsed during a flood in 2005, and will significantly improve freight traffic in the region.
